Dell was a great teacher and a person who would help students in all aspects of music. Del would be happy to know that one of his students has made it big. Not me, nope. The student is Tom Wakeling. Tom just produced his first CD. Tom graduated about 1971. I graduated in 1970, the year our band got to march for the first time in the Rose Festival parade.

To the family of Mr. Herreid:
You have my deepest sympathy during this time. As a 1986 graduate of Sunset High School and a member of the symphonic and marching bands, I have fond memories of Mr. Dell Herreid. He told it like it was when it came to rehearsals and I always knew where I stood as I yearned for that first clarinet chair. As I watched him direct our musical journeys, I always had a sense I was looking into the eyes of someone with a rich life and history. He will be...

We have many fond memories of Dell. Our daughter (Rachel) was in band for four years and we attended many performances and went on trips as chaperones. He was a fine teacher and person and a positive influence on his students. Rest in peace, Dell.

Dell was a classmate of mine at Moorhead High School. I'll always remember Dell from band, orchestra and chorus. As far back as grade school, Dell, Bill Preston and I donned choir garb at Christmastime and visited other classes, singing Christmas carols. He was a great musician and a great friend.

My Herreid was a favorite teacher of mine at Sunset. He taught me to love and appreciate music which I carried on into college and with my own children. He had a wonderful way of making kids understand music to its fullest. He will be sorely missed. Our prayers are with his family.

I will always remember how patient Mr. Herreid was with us in high school band at Sunset. He taught me how to play the flute in 4th grade and he was my teacher again in high school. One of my favorites! I will always remember him - he taught me how to love music. Nicole Baxter Murphy

He was a special man with a special family. He had the best chuckle. And He left us all too soon. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. With much love and fondness....

I have so many good memories and friendships that remain today as a result of being in the SHS band. Mr. Herreid put up with a lot and gave out a ton more. Thanks for allowing him to pour into us kids.
