Della R. Baraldi, 88, of Scotch Plains, passed on Sunday, July 28, 2019 while in hospice care following surgery and a brave battle against dementia. The Funeral will be from the Rossi Funeral Home, 1937 Westfield Ave. Scotch Plains, NJ 07076 on Monday, August 5, 2019. From 10-12pm the family will receive relatives and friends. A Funeral Service will be offered at the funeral home at 12pm. The interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Westfield.
Della was born, raised, and lived her entire life in Scotch Plains, NJ. Della was a graduate of Scotch Plains High School, where she was a cheerleader. Immediately after school she began working for New Jersey Bell Telephone Company (later AT&T) where she would work for 44yrs.; holding various positions of increasing responsibility until finally retiring as the Vice President of Treasury Management.
Della and her loving companion John were New York Ranger season ticket holders for over 40yrs. They also enjoyed going to Broadway shows, NY Mets games, professional golf tournaments, and trips down the shore. They would most often be in Manasquan, NJ to walk the beach or stop at Carlson's on the Inlet.
In retirement, she faithfully tended the garden her father had originally planted but also found time to tap into a previously undiscovered talent as a painter. She undertook a genealogical study of both her Italian and Irish roots and especially enjoyed international travel with family members. Whomever met her, recognized her kindness, spirit, wit, intellect, and caring for others. Her loving family and long-time neighbors will miss her very much.
Della is predeceased by her lifelong companion John J. Callahan; her father Henry; her mother Katherine; her brother Henry; her sister Irene Connors and brother-in-law Thomas Connors Sr.. She is survived by her niece Maureen Connors (John Fackleman); her nephews Thom (Nancy) and Kevin (Theresa) Connors; and her grandnephews Austin and Thomas Connors.
