With deep reverence and heartfelt remembrance we celebrate the life of Della Mae Charles who was born on June 5, 1926 in loving union to the late Leonard and Lula Black. She was the middle child of their cherished family and grew up surrounded by strong values of love, faith and resilience. She confessed Christ at an early age. She transitioned peacefully on July 10, 2025 at the blessed age of 99 surrounded by her family.
She was a devoted and dedicated member of Gloryland Missionary Baptist Church under the Pastoral leadership of Bennit Hayes where she worshipped and served faithfully for many years. She was also a Lifelong and faithful member of the Order of Eastern Star Rose of Sharon OES no. 4 where she served with grace, dignity and unwavering devotion.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Van Charles, Brother Freddie Black Sr, Sister Parilee Reynolds, Nieces Mamie Williams and Rosa Parnell, Nephew Leonard Black Sr.
She leaves to cherish her memories a Devoted Nephew, Freddie (Cleo Patricia) Black Jr, Nephew Larry Fair & Nephew Freddie Malone all of Mobile Alabama. Nephew(s) John W. Washington Jr. of Bryan, Texas and Burl (Linda) Washington of Fort Worth, Texas. Alvin (Dorothy) Washington of Somerville, Texas. Niece(s) Ermaree Bennett of Brenham, Texas and CeWille Kossie of Fort Worth, Texas. Dear and Devoted friends: Patricia Eugene and Christine Scott both of Houston, Texas along with a host of extended family, church members and Friends.
