Della Marie Sims McCaughan

Greatest aunt ever, you always felt that you were the only one she was paying attention to when you were in the room. Of course she also made the best red beans and rice, seafood gumbo and jambalaya that anyone on the planet has ever tasted! God bless you Aunt Della and Rest in peace. Say hello to Uncle Toe , Mary and I miss him too.

Courtesy of Della’s spirit and personality more than anything else, Della brought me into the world of science in 1972-1973, which led me to a 45 year career in EMS/Critical Care Nursing. Without Della I probably would have never found my way to that career. She was a bright guiding star for me. She believed in me! Della was literally the best teacher I have ever encountered, ever.

It wasn’t until college that it occurred to me just what an amazing teacher Mrs. McCaughan had been even in her year of retirement. It was only in my dreaded college biology class that I realized Mrs. McCaughan had taught 9th graders college-level biology - with success! It turned out just to be a refresher course because everything Mrs. McCaughan taught me stayed with me. Mrs McCaughan was the best teacher that I ever had. She taught me in both high school and college. She loved all her students. RIP
