Delores "Dee" Curvin Russell, of Helena, passed away at her home on Monday, May 23, at the age of 60. Born Sept. 9, 1955, in Anniston, Ala., Delores Curvin was the 11th child of Sam and Maggie Curvin of Jacksonville. Raised in a large and loving Christian home, "Dee" grew up with an unshakeable faith in the God she loved. She attended Cedar Springs and Alexandria schools, graduating from Alexandria High School in 1973. She attended The University of Alabama at Birmingham. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Russell; parents, Sam and Maggie (Jennings) Curvin; father-in-law, John Fletcher Russell; and one brother, Harvey Curvin.

She is survived by a daughter, Rachel Russell; her mother-in-law, Lois Russell; and nine siblings-- Frances Sharpton, Bernice Ayers (Sammy), Julia Heathcock (Doug), Vicki Morgan (Bill), Thara Gentry (Robby), Lamar Curvin (Kathleen), Melvin Curvin (Gloria), Larry Curvin (Joyce), and Sammy Curvin (Janice); one sister-in-law, Camilla Curvin; and numerous nieces and nephews.


Graveside services for Ms. Russell will be Tuesday, May 31, at 2 pm at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, 2701 John Hawkins Parkway in Hoover.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

I was a classmate of Delores' at Cedar Springs for a lot of years - she was a fun person and the life of lot of class parties! She will be missed

I was really sad to hear about Delores, We dated way back when , She was always a lot of fun to be with and we really had some good times together. We remained friends afterward and had caught up with each other not too long ago.. I will always have fond memories of Delores and will never forget her. Rest in peace Delores. Gone but not forgotten.

I am praying for Uncle Sam and Aunt Maggie's family. God loves you dearly and so do I. We have such great memories and love for our cousins. Our loss for our sister is Heaven's gain. Grace and Peace.

Delores, Teresa, Phillip & I were the same age & I have such fond memories of her! She always had such a sweet spirit! My love to all the family!!
