DELORES J. SPENCE, age 76 of Hillsdale, passed away on Monday, June 27, 2011 at her home. She was born on February 25, 1935 in Rantoul, Illinois to Victor and Amelia Cleghorn (Green) Sanborn. She married Herbert Spence, Jr. on June 26, 1953 in Weston, MI, and he survives. Delores lived her early life in the Sand Creek area, and spent the last 37 years at her present home in Hillsdale. She graduated from Sand Creek High School in 1953, and was a member of the Hillsdale United Brethren Church. She was a Naturopathic Doctor, receiving her degree from Trinity School of Natural Healing of Winona, Indiana, a member of C.N.H.P., (Certified National Health Practitioners), International Iridologists Organization, A.N.C.P., (American National Certified Practitioners), as well as Michigan National Health Coalition. Delores was also on the teaching staff of the Naturopathic School in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. She and her husband owned and operated Back to Basics Health Clinic, in Hillsdale. Surviving besides her husband Herb, are two sons, Lyndell W. Spence of Hillsdale and Leonard R. Spence of Jackson, one daughter, Lorinda Bertakis of Boca Raton, Florida, eleven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two brothers, Duane (Cindy) Sanborn of Hudson, Darwin (Lee) Sanborn of Sunfield, Michigan, one sister, Diana (Douglas) Frey of Hudson, one sister in law, Patricia Sanborn of Manitou Beach, nineteen nephews and sixteen nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Douglas Sanborn. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, June 30, 2011 at the Hillsdale United Brethren Church, 240 S. Howell Street in Hillsdale, with Pastor Les Smith officiating. The visitation will be on Wednesday from 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM and from 5:00 PM – 7:30 PM at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home, 122 N. Steer Street (U.S. 127) in Addison. Cremation will follow the funeral service. Memorial contributions are to Alpha Omega Women's Care Center of Hillsdale, and Michigan National Health Coalition. Contribution envelopes will be made available.
