I was shocked to hear the news of Denice's death, and am writing with tears in my eyes after learning of the details surrounding it.
I remember Denice from MIT, and was struck by her commitment to women in engineering, and to her future in Academia. When I was a freshman, she gave a January session class in electronics for women. Her motive wasn't pay or credit - she wanted to have more women go into Electrical Engineering. I also remember her speaking to a group of new women...

My condolences to the family and friends of Denice Denton. I graduated from the UW before she became dean for the college of engineering but have kept up with what she has done through the UW alumini magazine and news letters. She was an incredible person for which I've admired from afar. I am sadden to think that she is no longer with us but I'm sure she will remain in our thoughts and memories.

Denice, Words really can't express the sadness I feel at the passing of such a strong, devoted - truly honest - leader. Your life and passing is a lesson to every new female academic, to any diverse person who tries to work within the system. Rest in peace.

I didn't meet Denice but she will live on as a role model for me. I am involved heavily in the diversity experience at my company. Great spirits like her's can not be forgotten on the road to inclusion.
We will carry her memory forward and remember her in our work both in scientific discovery and diversity.

I was stunned and saddened to hear of Denice's death. What a terrible loss for women in science and for higher education as a whole. I met Denice when she headed a University of Washington search committee on which I served. Her leadership qualities were superb, and I sought her advice on other occasions after the search was over. She will remain an inspiration to me and so many others.

I knew Denice when we were both undergrads at MIT. She was a very interesting and vibrant person. She seemed wise beyond her years because she knew what she wanted and didn't get lost amidst the pressures and distractions that face all first year college students. She will be missed.
