Although she was born in Fort Myers, Fla., and lived in Hackensack, N.J., Denise Elizabeth Crant was a New Yorker at heart.
"I used to give her heck about not being a real New Yorker," said her brother John, of Manhattan.
But even a teasing younger brother could see that her job in the facilities department of Marsh U.S.A., on the 93rd floor of the north tower of the World Trade Center, had changed her demeanor. "It was like having her old self back," Mr. Crant said. "She had the glow back."
Ms. Crant, 46, returned in September 2000, after taking a five-year break from the city. She first moved to New York in 1987 to get married. She left the city when the marriage broke up. "Until she left, she didn't realize how much she truly loved it," Mr. Crant said. "Every time I ever spoke with her it was all about moving back to New York."
When she returned, she and her brother, an executive recruiter, spoke daily. Most mornings she would take the bus into the city, often arriving by 6:30 a.m. Then she would leave a voice-mail message for her brother, teasing him about his "banker's hours."
"So I would call her pretty much every morning when I got in," Mr. Crant said. "I really miss those calls."
Thinking of Denise and her family today. Much love from Texas, we will never forget.

To the Crant Family,
I recently discovered your loss and want you to know I express the sorrow I share with you.
I worked for the Crant family in Cape Coral at Candes for several years. I got to know her and the family pretty well.
I was young and impessionable and Denise and her family made a great impression on me that I will carry for the rest of my life.
My prayers go out to Denise and her Family.
Denise,John,EJ and Shelly you all...

I never met Denise. Our mothers who have both since passed, were first cousins. So I guess she is my second cousin. Her mom stayed with us a few times. I have viewed this a few times over the years. I was just watching 9/11 memorials and always pray for her when I do. God Bless

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

As I cross-stitched your name on the memorial that I am doing for all of the victims, I prayed for you and your family. Please know that your death was not in vain. We will always remember. God Bless.
