Wilson Funeral Home - Tampa Obituary

Denley E. Joseph was born on January 19, 1931 in Seatons Village, Antigua to Ruby Thomas and raised by his grandmother Margaret Thomas who helped to instill his love of prayer and God.  He loved cooking and was trained as a master baker before leaving the island at the age of 21 to look for work in Chicago and New York.  Used to the warm Caribbean weather, he fled the cold for Florida where he met the love of his life, Inez, whom he affectionately called ‘Dr. J’.

Mr. Joseph was the Business Manager for the Labors Local Union #1207, where he obtained work for his members to build many projects throughout Tampa such as Busch Gardens and the Shipyard.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Keithly, Foster, Lesroy, Berniece, Geraldine and Paulette.  He leaves to cherish precious memories his wife, Dr. Inez Joseph; his children, Deirdre, Denton (Stephanie), Jackie Alleyne (Luke); his sister, Gwen Koenigbaur (Fred); his grandchildren, Dalen, Jesela and Jordan; his nieces and nephews in Antigua, Canada and the United States; a host of cousins and friends who are like family and his church family.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday May 16, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Marks Episcopal Church, 13312 Cain Road, Tampa, Florida 33625. A viewing and visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at his beloved church St. James House of Prayer Episcopal Church, 2708 N. Central Avenue, Tampa, Florida 33602.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. James House of Prayer Episcopal Church to be used for the special projects he loved – the youth, the gardens and the grounds.
