Dennis F.              Born in Doylestown on Feb 1, 1947, Dennis was the son of the late Franklin Bishop and Jacquelyn (Humes) Bishop, and older brother of two sisters, Doreen Bishop, and Deborah (Bishop) Hunter.

A graduate of Souderton High School, Class of 1965, Denny is remembered as a stellar competitor in Baseball, Track & Field and was a stand-out “All Bux-Mont League” Football player as a fullback and linebacker for Souderton High School. His athletic talent took him for an opportunity to play a season for Trinidad State College in Colorado.

A proud American and combat Veteran, Mr. Bishop enlisted in the US Army in March of 1966.  After completing training at Fort Dix, NJ, and playing for the All-Army football team, he served with the 9th Infantry Division in 1967-68 in Vietnam as a Heavy Vehicle Driver. Upon his return stateside, Dennis was assigned to the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Fort Lewis, WA. His awards and decorations include the Expert Marksman Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. He was a long-time member of both the American Legion, and VFW.

Mr. Bishop would go on to define himself in a civilian career, first in road construction, and then as a professional truck driver. He was a long-standing member of the Teamsters Union, PA Local 234. Working in Pennsylvania for Hanes & Kibblehouse, and then over ten years with Linde Industrial Gasses out of Hatfield, PA, he was recognized regionally and nationally for numerous industry awards for outstanding performance and stellar safety record. In the 1990’s Dennis drove for Florida Rock and Tank Lines and culminated his trucking career with Jet Star Trucking where he rose to be the company’s Regional Manager and #1 trainer, mentoring innumerable young truckers to this critical industry.

Mr. Bishop was a coach in the Souderton-Telford area for youth football and baseball in the 1970’s. He was active in area softball and baseball leagues in the 1970’s and ‘80’s in PA, and from the ‘90’s to early 2000’s in Florida. Denny was a life-long fan of Auto Racing, Penn State Football, and Philadelphia Phillies Baseball.

He is preceded by his beloved daughter Andrea Lyn Bishop, (1981-2012). Denny’s memory lives on through his loving family and friends.
