Not sure what to say?

Dennis made a major contribution, over many years, to Canadians' understanding of our grave environmental problems. And his gentle and sympathetic personality made him a pleasure to work with. He will be badly missed by the environmental community. I hope a formal way will be found to commemorate his work.

My most sincere condolences go out to Dennis’ family and friends. As many others, I had the privilege to meet Dennis in his capacity as a journalist. From the onset, Dennis struck me as a man with infinite integrity, openness and respect for others. Humble and inquisitive, his work has elevated journalism to a higher level. Real, sincere. The humanity in his work has deeply touched all Canadians, and his clarity has helped us shape society for the greater good. Dennis is a Canadian hero. Part...

I met Dennis through his capacity as a journalist and my work as the Coordinator for Friends of Medicare in Alberta.

Dennis was not only an excellent journalist but clearly a caring, concerned citizen.

He will be missed not only for his professional excellence, but his personal qualities.

I remember Dennis as a person who shared in our joys and frustrations in working for the environment. Not the usual hard-boiled reporter type. I was shocked and saddened by his passing.

My deep, heartfelt condolences go out to Dennis’ family and all of those who knew him and miss him. Like so many others I became acquainted with Dennis through his work, in my capacity as an advocate with the David Suzuki Foundation. My first impression of Dennis, and one that still lingers to this day, is his warm smile. In dealing with Dennis I was always left with the impression that he was speaking to me as a friend, first and foremost, not as a reporter. He had a gentleness and a genuine...

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in your time of grief. May your memories bring you comfort.

I wish to express deepest sympathy to Dennis' family on behalf of myself and Sierra Club of Canada.

Dennis was an excellent journalist. He believed that environmental issues were important and continued to write about them even when they were unfashionable in other newsrooms. Too frequently, he would be the sole journalist to cover an environmental group's media conference in the Charles Lynch Theatre.

He was skeptical, curious and fair, and his writing was clear and...

I was privileged to work with Dennis when he arrived in Ottawa. It was clear then that he was a journalist's journalist, robustly curious and committed to the work and healthily skeptical of the conventional wisdom. He sought answers respectfully and sincerely and he carried himself honourably.
It was no surprise that he pursued his passion of science and health writing, particularly in the realm of degradation of the planet, because he wanted his journalism to help people and knew that...

Our condolences to Joan, Anton, and Francis. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
