BEDFORD — Dennis Dale Deckard, 58, of Bedford, died at 8:43 a.m. Saturday at Bedford Regional Medical Center. He was born May 12, 1951, in Lawrence County, the son of Dale and Virginia M. (Hicks) Deckard. He married Jonna Beth Gould on July 3, 1989, and she survives. He was a mechanical engineering technician and retired from NSWC Crane in 2006. He graduated Oolitic High School in 1969 and went on to serve his country in the National Guard, Company C, 6th Battalion. Dennis was of the Christian faith, read his Bible daily and was faithful to the Lord. He was also a member of Outdoor Sportsmen Club of Mitchell and the National Rifle Association. He loved hunting, fishing, the outdoors, motorcycle riding, playing his guitar and playing with his grandchildren. Surviving with his wife, Jonna Beth Deckard of Bedford; are his mother, Virginia M. Deckard of Bedford; his children, Brandon Dale Deckard and wife Nikki of Orleans, Whitney Marie Harrison and husband Toby of Bedford; his stepson, Jerod Easton Jennings of Bedford; his four grandchildren, Blayne Harrison, Brylee Harrison, Griffin Deckard and Anna Deckard; one brother, Terry Deckard and wife Peggy; one sister, Sheila Corbin and husband Bruce; two nephews, Brian Corbin and Ryan Deckard; and one niece, Amy Silvernail. He will be dearly missed by all of his family. Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Dale B. Deckard, on April 20, 2010. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home in Bedford with ministers Johnny Johnson and Phil McDonald officiating. He will be buried at Dive Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. A list of memorial contributions in memory of Dennis will be available at the funeral home.
