Learning the words to Johnny Cash's Folsom Prision Blues in Coach Flak's biology class my sophmore year and then having to sing it to the class because of a tic tac is one of my favorite memories and stories from high school. I still love that song and tell that story often.

I was very sad to hear the news of Mr. Flak's passing. He was one of the best science teachers I ever had. He was a brilliant and complex man who challenged his class in new ways everyday. I am forever grateful for the positive impact Mr. Flak had on my life, and I pray that he is at peace with God.

I, too, remember Denny for his work at Burton Park. He was a very nice guy. We had a park basketball team back in the day and most of the time he drove us to the other parks to play our games. I am so sorry to hear of his passing and his family's loss. It sounds like he definitely prouded us all with a lot longer legacy than just those summers in our neighborhood park. Just goes to show you that teachers are often special souls; just plain do-gooders.

His gentle and fun-loving way was infectious and I always enjoyed being around him and saying outlandish things to him because he was never at a loss for words or a whitty comeback. Just seeing his photo brings a smile to my face. He...

My condolences to Denny's family. He was a big part of our life back in those 70's Catholic Central days.......the teachers and coaches were so close back then that we all felt like family. I know that Kevin was waiting for him just the other side of those pearly gates......that's where all great teachers go! My thoughhts and prayers are with you all. Michalene Casey Mikula
