Versatility and Luck

The more information Dennis Gomes crammed into his head, the more room his mind made for a new shipment.

Jazz? Mr. Gomes, who had worked in a club, knew jazz. Sports? He was so packed with trivia that he moderated a fans' Web site. Math? For fun, he memorized the first 37 digits of pi.

Sports, meet math. Mr. Gomes, 40, an officer at Fiduciary Trust, bet on football and horse racing. His favorite casino game was pai gow poker.

Gambling, meet cities. Mr. Gomes visited Las Vegas five times a year. He even moderated a Las Vegas-oriented Web site. The Queens resident also loved New York so much that he lived like a tourist, seeing plays, museums and landmarks with a tireless enthusiasm.

He respected the enthusiast in others. For Bruce Gomes, one of his four brothers and a subway buff, Mr. Gomes collected more than two dozen subway maps from around the world and had them bound.

A soft-spoken introvert, Dennis Gomes met a California extrovert on the Internet and was endlessly grateful that she celebrated his enthusiasms, moved here and married him on Sept. 3, 2000. When Cindy Gomes gave birth to their daughter, Mackenzie, Mr. Gomes couldn't believe his good fortune.

Not sure what to say?

24 years have passed since we lost a special person 'Trane'.
Time has helped soften the sorrow, but has not let us forget.
Each and every year in observance of September 11 2001 and in Loving Memory for a friend and his family we pay tribute on our website.
GODSPEED

Twenty years..... and much longer since I last saw you. In some dimension we are still dancing at Ankeny´s on the roof of the Ridpath. Memories live; you are in our hearts. Thanks, DJ, for the friendship, the kindness and all the laughs. Watch over us, and rest well, my friend.

Dear Dennis, In a yard in Southern California, is a crepe myrtle that the kids and I planted to commemorate 9/11. Twenty years on, it's grown tall, strong, and beautiful. While, we never met, we knew Cindy, and rejoiced when we heard of the birth of MacKenzie. I hope today, MacKenzie is tall, strong and beautiful like our tree. Blessings and love to you, Cindy, and MacKenzie, wherever they are.

Dennis, I can't believe it has been 20 years. I still think of you. We never met in person, but I had the privilege to work with you via the phone. You were a great bank contact and I loved chatting and hearing about your family. I'm sure you are missed each and every day.

DJ,
A long time ago you were a friend and a gentleman who helped a young woman understand her worth. I am eternally grateful to have had you in my life. You are remembered often, very fondly.

Trane, Although I never met you in person, we had a lot of fun on the Vegas Gang Board. You were so witty. Those were some fun times. I think of you every time I hear about the events of that tragic day. Your Friend -Doubledown

14 years have passed. May you Rest In Peace, dear friend. WE WILL NEVER FORGET

Rest in peace my friend. You will never be forgotten.

I'm an old Fanhome acquaintance. R.I.P.
