Last week, upon learning of Dennis' passing from another retired OCC professor, a flood of happy memories returned. Dennis befriended my husband, Henry Rhodes, years ago. They shared a love of the sea and ocean voyaging as well as pedagogy. He was at my husband's bedside when he died. He and Laurie included me in their lives as I adjusted to widowhood. He had a buoyant and caring nature...always with a sense of fun. I will put on my Hawaiian shirt today! Love to Laurie.

I just found out today of Dennis Kelly's passing. I am shocked. I wanted to contact him regarding what I am teaching my honors biology right now. Whale evolution. I was inspired by him when I attended OCC and never gave up the love of marine biology. My daughter majored in marine biology and is now getting her masters because he inspired me. His life will always live on due to the thousands he touched. Love and hugs to his family and I will forever miss him. RIP Dennis.

I just found out that Mr. Kelly passed away last October. I am so saddened by this news. He was one of my favorite teachers ever. I enjoyed OCC so much because of him. His classes were so fun. His passion for the ocean and marine mammals was infectious. I took his classes 40 years ago and still remember so much because he made it fun and interesting. He shared his passion and knowledge with all his students. We formed the Marine Mammal Research Group and worked a booth at the fair. Great...

So sad to hear about the passing of Dennis, he was such an inspiration to me as a student of his at OCC back in 1990. He helped develop and feed my passion for all things marine science and especially marine animals which I have retained all my life since. Gone from this earth too soon, as this earth needs more people like Dennis Kelly! Donation made to the American Cetacean Society in his name.
