Soderstrum Funeral Home - Story City Obituary

Dennis Ray Krumm was born in Webster City on February 28, 1955 to Hurley and Doris (Engstrom) Krumm. His grandparents were Hap and Marie Krumm and Melvin and Arlene Engstrom. He lived his entire life within a couple miles of the Krumm family farm. He graduated from South Hamilton High School in 1973 and started farming with his grandpa, Hap, when he was 18. On May 26, 1974 he married Pam Olson of Ellsworth at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They were married for 37 years. He was a farmer and owned a small dump truck business. Denny was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church his entire life, where he was baptized and confirmed, and served as a Trustee and on the Finance Committee. Denny enjoyed refurbishing old cars, pick-ups, and tractors, playing slow-pitch softball in his younger years, and most recently camping and boating at Clear Lake, and he loved spending time with his 3 grandchildren. Denny passed away February 7, 2012 after a 7 month-long battle with metastasized melanoma. He was 56 years of age. Survivors include his wife Pam, son Toby (who farmed and trucked with his dad), daughter Tracy (Adrian) of Des Moines, grandchildren Kelbe, Ashton, and Ava of Des Moines, mother Doris Mathre (Les) of Story City, sister Jennifer Friedmeyer (Andy) of Ankeny, sister Karol Krumm-Jasper (Vince) of Boone, Pam's parents Lawrence and Ruth Olson, Pam's sister Jan Thompson (Bruce), Pam's brother Roger Olson (Tammy) all of Ellsworth, Pam's sister Julee Lund (Tim) of Jewell, his aunt Joye Engstrom of Ankeny, nephews and nieces Abby Friedmeyer, Lindsay Friedmeyer, Jeff Friedmeyer, Jason Thompson, Justin Thompson, Veronica Olson, Brent Sogard, and Jon Sogard, step-sisters Cheryl Hoffman (Ron) and Diane Larson (Kim), and step-brother Larry Mathre (Glenda). He was preceded in death by his father Hurley in 1968, his grandparents, his uncle Deward Engstrom, and his nephew Jeremy Thompson. Memorials can be made out to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church or South Hamilton CSD.
