Not sure what to say?

Dennis May be gone for 9 years, however he is not by his friends and fraternity brothers. He is thought of often and fondly remembered as a gentleman of great character.

Dear Dennis,
I still remember the day you left for college - I stood in the front door with tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat. I was just 10 years old then and now everytime I think of you the same thing happens. You didn't come home for the holidays this time. I had no idea how much I would miss you.
Tomorrow is your birthday and I couldn't be more thrilled that we got you out for your 60th last year! You fought, didn't want to go. "non sense" you called it - with...

The Brothers of Phi Delta Rho toasted to the memory of Dennis Murphy and Marc Lewis on Sunday January 23, 2011 at the home of John and Patti Bradley. It was the Annual Festivus that Dennis attended in 2008-2010.

I can't help but to think of Big "D" Dennis Murphy today on All Souls Day. We the Brothers of Phi Delta Rho will never forget "the beautiful soul" of Big "D". May you rest in peace and we always remember you.

Alex and timmy. Your father will be missed dearly and you are both in our hearts.

Even among some pretty amazing characters at 1 Grand, Dennis stood out. His wit and intelligence made a great place to live even better. I'm REALLY grateful that I made it to my first Festivus last year and got to see Dennis after so many years. Although he will no longer be with us, I know memories and images of Dennis will remain for the rest of our lives and I hope that when it is our turn we will join up with him again in a better place.

A cherished bookplate bought from Dennis

Dennis was a rugged veteran of three bookstore locations downtown Syracuse, while maintaining an eclectic online shop as well. Murphy's Downtown Books was the only place to buy a book for many years, and I am sure there are hundreds of former customers who appreciate his efforts–which are legendary–and have missed him every day since he closed Jefferson St. He added a human touch and had a wonderful sense of the absurd. My deepest sympathy to his sons and to his family.

I think Finn put it best: "A wonderful soul". Murph - my pledgemaster, my brother, my friend; I knew the kind of person you were the instant we met ... They don't come any better. Peace ... Dannayah

Murph, I am proud to say we were brothers of Phi Delta Rho. Rest peacefully.
