To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Dear Linda,
I only learned of Dennis' passing yesterday from my Mom. I am so sorry for your loss. He was one of the gentlest men I grew up with, and what a sense of humor. I just keep remembering his gregarious laugh and those mischievous eyes of his. I'm sure you knew what a great athlete he was growing up. But Dennis was so humble he probably didn't make a big deal of it.
I so enjoyed looking at the photos. You two did everything under the sun. There are some great happy memories that you will treasure. Abraham Lincoln once said " it's not the years in the life that matter but the life in the years". That thought was going through my head as I looked at the photo gallery and how much Dennis fit into this time we have on earth. May God comfort you and your children in this time of mourning and give you the peace that only comes from the knowledge that Dennis is in the Fathers care now.
In His Love,

Dennis was a classmate, teammate and friend through Mahoney and SPHS. Dennis has a universal appeal about him that made him well liked across all the different groups and cliques that comprise junior high and high school. He was a leader on the field and it is no supirise to learn that he remained a leader throughout his life. I wish the very best for his family and the many close friends and collegues he leaves behind.

On Wednesday, March 28th, Local 1445 members lost not only their servicing representative but a good friend as well. Dennis Norton, who was diagnosed with cancer in the fall, ultimately lost his battle but not without a gallant fight.
As his members and many friends know, Dennis was a special man. His smile lit up a room and his people skills were phenomenal. He had the ability to calm down an angry person and, before he was done, had that same person speaking and thinking positive thoughts. If anyone needed help when Dennis was around, they never even had to ask because Dennis had already seen the need and jumped right in - that was the type of person he was.
During all the years I've known Dennis and all the times he came to me with a request (and there were plenty!), it was never for himself, always for his members. He was always looking to do something with the stewards at Coca-Cola, Hannaford Brothers, and the Stop & Shop stores in New Hampshire: to help members in need; to do something in the community around the holidays; to set up training for the stewards so they could better fight for their members; to lobby for or against a local issue, with the goal of benefiting his members' families. Dennis was, first and foremost, a working man and a proud union brother who used his considerable energy and abilities to fight for his union family.
Dennis is going to be missed by a lot of people, not only his family and friends, but also the people he worked with on both sides of the negotiating table; the many labor unionists that he fought shoulder-to-shoulder with; his members that he fought so hard and so long for; and our staff who knew and loved him for what he demonstrated himself to be: a great friend and a great man. We all have the greatest respect for Dennis, and will always remember his amazing smile.

Linda,
So sorry to hear this news. Please let me know if you need anything or even just a sounding board. May you and your family find peace in this very difficult time.

I met Dennis 10 years ago when I began my career with Local 371 UFCW in CT. Despite being only 22 years old at the time, Dennis treated me as peer and with great respect even though I was just the new kid. I will not forget the good times we had in Mystic, Mt Washington and other places along the way. He was truly an asset to the labor movement, and good man. I have since moved to Washington DC to continue my career in the labor movement so unfortunately I will not be able to attend the services. I offer his family, friends and the Local 1445 family my deepest condolences. Dennis will stay in my prayers. RIP brother.
