Dennis RANEY

I took two years of German from Mr. Raney in1963-4 when Ferris HS first opened. He was a wonderful teacher and a friend to every student he had in his classes. I can never forget the old sound lab when Mr. Raney would be listening in and correct enunciations. It was fun because my father spoke fluent German having had to in his home growing up with strict German parents in Iowa. Of course, my father's dialect was different so it made learning somewhat challenging being corrected at school...

I was 8 years old when I met Jack Raney. He and Dick McGinn gave many hours, days, years to my brother Joe. The three of them had a great time together with lots of laughs i.e. the Oral Roberts "healing campaign ". Jack was a wonderful man who always thought about others. R.I.P. I taught with Dennis at Ferris High School for many years. He loved his students and teaching. Even though we taught in different buildings we became great friends and shared many conversations over the years. Too me he was a special person and educator. Steve Backlund
