A celebration of life will be held for Dennis Snodgrass, 61, of Coquille at a later date at Laverne Park in Fairview.

Dennis was born June 20, 1947, in Portland, to Quay and Virginia (Norris) Snodgrass. He died Nov. 12, 2008, in Fairview.

He married Etta Gist on May 7, 1999, in North Bend.

He attended Springfield area schools. Dennis served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968 and performed a 13-month tour of duty in Vietnam. He was awarded the Purple Heart. He worked in the logging industry in Alaska and for Weyerhaeuser. He also worked for the Bureau of Land Management, for Sause Brothers in Coos Bay, and for Coos County from 1994 until his retirement in 2002.

Survivors include his wife, Etta of Fairview; stepdaughter, Melody Rieker and her husband, Norman of Coronado, Calif.; a brother, Ron of Springfield; four sisters, Carol McCartney of Dayville, Virginia Seleen of Portland, Rebecca Offutt of Marcola and Julie Snodgrass of McMinnville; and grandchildren, Kyra, Jericho and Jonathan Rieker of Coronado.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Roseburg VA Medical Center, 913 N.W. Garden Valley Blvd., Roseburg, OR 97470

I am so sorry for your loss. I had the Privilege of Working with Dennis at the County Road Dept. I still remember when he was Hired. Just a great guy period. He always shot from the Hip with his Honesty.A Man to Respect, and look up to.

Etta, Ron, Carol, Jenny, Becky and Julie. . . I am so sorry for your loss of a husband and brother. When I saw his name in the paper, my heart just sank. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. He was a good man and a very caring person. I am sure he is smiling down on all of you and knowing how each of you will share wonderful, loving memories of the time you had with him. I am so glad that I knew him the way I did and am able to say, "What a wonderful person he was. . .!" God...

I'm truely sorry for the loss of a good vet and friend.
