Read MoreI still pray for and think of Denny every day. He was my best friend in junior high school, and we spent many hours bass fishing together and angling for smelt off the Berkeley Pier. His wife, Elinor, is now with him...and I still hear from a few of his children.

Denny and I were nearly inseparable back in the l940s and early 1950s. We bicycled down to Berkeley Pier regularly to fish and also drove up to Bruno's to rent a boat and try our luck for bass in the San Joaquin River. We also used to hunt at my folk's summer home in Saratoga and hitchhike over to Santa Cruz to fish from the pier there. I could not have asked for a better friend during my early teens, and I thank God each and every day for our fun times together.
