Not sure what to say?

I was a student at Woodhouse 1975-82. Mr Whittaker was a formidable Headmaster and I respected him greatly. I look back at my time there with happiness and gratitude.

Mr Whitaker taught me in the late 50's.
Terrific, terrifying and great, great fun.
May his dear soul rest in peace.

An unforgettable first boss! He appointed me to my very first post - in the English Department at Woodhouse. I will always remember him.

Under his stewardship Woodhouse School was a leading light. It was a beacon of excellence for other schools to follow. Dennis Whitaker was a fair man who judged people on their merit. He told our Assembly one day that he did not like failure, but he had a use for it and so should we - because we can learn from it so that we do not fail again. Integrity such as his is rare and in today's world not seen too often.

A truly great headmaster , when the role of headmaster really meant something . I always likes him although he scared the life out of me

As a former pupil at Woodhouse I will never forget the last pep talk you gave us before leaving 6th Form, those words still reverberate with me today and mean even more today then when you uttered them. The final sentence of that talk was the most memorable and is essense was
"Be kind to everyone but most especially your parents and try not to let them down"
I think your values and beliefs live strong in all those who had the good fortune to know you and that you had contact with.

As an ex Woodhouse pupil I would just like to pay my condolences to the family of Mr Whitaker. He was my headmaster from 71-78 and although when I was young he was a bit scary, afterwards I realise he was a dedicated, conscientious and committed headmaster who I owe an awful lot too. Certainly a man of his time and I suspect we will not see the like again, God bless and thank you.

What a man. I was a pupil in the '70s. Strict but fair and very generous with his time and knowledge. A good example to everyone and showed wonderful tolerance to pupils of varied race and religion. A wonderful man who will be sadly missed. Best wishes to his family.

I was a pupil at Woodhouse from 1973-80. Mr Whitaker was greatly respected, and feared by many! Looking back, I can see what an excellent headmaster he was.
My condolences to his family.
