Dennis "Denny" Morgan O'Brien, age 77, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2026 at his home in Greenville, Missouri. He was born May 20, 1948 in Silva, Missouri, the son of Samuel O'Brien and Madeline (Levart) O'Brien-Matthews.
A lifelong resident of Wayne County, Denny worked as a barber in Greenville for many years. He served in the United States Army from 1969-1971 and attended Greenville Baptist Church. On June 15, 2011, he married Melissa Scaggs in Greenville and she survives.
Denny courageously fought a long battle of cancer and on the 26th of March, he entered the arms of his savior Jesus Christ. In his spare time, he loved to collect loose change, grow tomatoes, fish, play rummy and solitaire, and spend time with his dog Queenie. He loved Jesus and had a huge giving heart.
In addition to his parents Samuel and Madeline, he is preceded in death by his step father, Henry Matthews, two brothers, Bill Beckett, Jessie Beckett, and one granddaughter, Morgan O'Brien.
Survivors includes his wife Melissa O'Brien of the home, four children; Sam O'Brien and his wife Laurie of Poplar Bluff, Denise Woodard of Poplar Bluff, Tiffany O'Brien of Poplar Bluff, Sarah Schrader and her husband Terry of Silva, three sisters; Donna Bush of Cedar Hill, Charlene Kaminski and her husband Jim of House Springs, and Theresa Louzader of Washington.
Also surviving are six grandchildren; Briana Bennett and her husband Eric, Madison Woodard and her fiancé Mason, Camren Schrader, Casey Schrader, Cody Robbins, Amber Robbins and her fiancé Brian, along with 7 great grandchildren and many other family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, at the Morrison Funeral Chapel in Greenville. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, at the funeral home chapel with Bro. John Schlager officiating.
Interment will be in the Wesley Chapel Dixon Cemetery in Hiram, with full military honors.
