Watching Derek grow up in NEMA motocross organization there are no words to describe the bond within our club. You had to experience it for yourself. Derek would be the first one to pick you up when you were down. His kindness showed in everything he did. He never wanted to be recognized as a mentor to riders new to the club. I was a grade above Derek, graduated in 2006. During middle school we were close friends. I will never forget the time he had his mom pick me up so we could go to the movies to see a movie I told him I wanted to see. We were about 13. He always had the best smile and the biggest heart. I am so saddened to see this obituary. I remember Derek from motocross with Michael and it breaks my heart to see that he couldn't escape his demon. He had a good heart and I will remember him for that. And also his humor he loved to be a jokester. So sorry for your loss.
