Not sure what to say?

Dear Blume Family and Friends, and especially his Girlfriend Lisa,
I was very shocked to hear of Dereck's passing. He was always a good kid, and never judged anyone on what they looked like or who they were on the outside - all throughout school. I am not going to give you that line about how he is in a better place, because frankly, I just lost someone close to me too and it doesnt help to hear that. But I hope God brings you strength and, in time, peace. Derek had a good heart. ...

Twila, John, Dieter, Anne, Lisa, Lois

There exists so much nobel talent and skills among all of you. So many folks love and care for you. That was confirmed to us during visitation and internment for Derek. We only knew Derek by second hand stories by my good friend David Alderfer. Now we have a vivid image of Derek. He is the shining golden pyramid that tips your family oblisk of Love, Strength, Kindness and Hope. Thank you for letting us share in the celebration of Derek's...

Twila, Dieter, Lisa & Anne:
My prayers are with you.
We can't tell what may happen to us in the strange medley of life. But we can decide what happens in us, and that is what really counts in the end. Derek took the raw stuff of life and made it a thing of worth and beauty. Derek touched my life. I am so glad. God Bless!!!

I did not know Derek very well, although I do remember him as being a fun, creative guy. I'd see him at parties and keep telling myself that I'd get to know him one day. Now, I'll never have the chance, but I am glad that I knew him even just a little bit. He'll be missed.

Twila, I only knew your son through you but it was easy to pick up how Derek is the light of your life. These many heartfelt entries tell how he made his loving mark on others. A Mother has an important role in a sons life and you apparently did an exceptional job. Mother to Mother I will always be here for you.

Anne & Dieter,
I am so, so sorry. I can only imagine how painful the loss of your son must be. Though his life was far too short, Derek obviously used his time well, touching the lives and hearts of many while he was with us on earth.

My love to you both,
Danny

Dear Annie and Dieter...I know that my words will never ease the pain that you are feeling, but know that my prayers go out to you daily and to Derek's mother during this very difficult and tragic time. Please if there is anything that I can do for you down here in Newport News (while no longer in DC area), know that you can call me and I will be there. God bless and protect you all.

Derek was a truly remarkable person. I only had the privilege of meeting him a few years ago, but in that short time, he made a lasting impression-- I've met few people as energetic, as enthusiastic, and as inquisitive as Derek. Please accept my sincere condolences for healing and hope. Our circle of friends is missing a true shining star in him.

We are so very sorry about Derek's death. I am missing him already, feeling like the world will not be the same now that he is gone. We will miss Derek terribly much at our family gatherings. Our feelings reach out to Lisa too; she is always welcome at our family gatherings to remember Derek with us.
How can someone with so much life be dead? If there is a God, She is weeping with us.
