As late as I am to sign this, I didn't find this until now. I remember walking through the mall in Norfolk before a show in 2014 and when I came out the other side across from the Norva, I came face to face with you. A simple "excuse me" was uttered as you passed me, and I looked at the people I was with and exclaimed "I think that was Derek!". Your life was precious, more so than your music. I've only just recently discovered this band and Derek and I just want to say that although I haven't known you all that long you will have a place in my heart always and have literally changed my life around making it all the better.
