Not sure what to say?

Derek,
Each time I think about you I remember your smile and your words of encouragement for my next race I was running. I promise I will always whisper those words of confidence you gave me every time I am nervous getting into those starting blocks! Much thanks and love to you always.
You will always be on the track with me in my heart,
T.D.

DEREK MAY GOD BLESS AND KEEP YOU!! i MET YOU SOME YEARS AGO THROUGH A SPECIAL FRIEND OF MINE SAMUAL WILLIAMS.SO NOW YOUR IN HEAVEN WITH SAM GUARDING ME AND MY FAMILY. GOD BLESS YOU BROTHER...REST IN PEACE!!

I was so saddened to hear the news of Derek's passing. My prayers are with his family and friends. I first met Derek when I lived in the Bay Area during the early 1990s, and he was always a wonderful spirit. It is too sad that such a good young man has to be taken away so soon. Heaven is even more of a joyful place with Derek's homegoing.
God Bless you all.

I wish to express my deepest condolences to the Keyes family and to all of Derek's friends. I met Derek through my roommate over ten years ago. He was always happy, friendly and so full of life. I am happy I had the chance to meet Derek before he moved to Southern California. My prayers are with you during your time of loss.

I am sad at the passing of a free spirit such as Derek. He was one who always had a great smile, a kind word and took the time to get to know people at a more personal level. Knowing Derek has brought joy to my life. My thoughts and prayers are with him, his family and his friends. God Bless!!

So sorry to hear of your loss. Derek's great smile and attitude will be greatly missed. I would run into derek from time to time and he always greeted me with a big hug and a smile. Derek you will be missed.

My deepest condolences go out to the Keyes Family. I met Derek and instantly became friends with him. I will always remember his smile, I know he is lighting up Heaven with it. He will definitely be missed, but i'm sure Heaven is going to enjoy their newest angel.

My deepest sympathy to the Keys family. I knew Derek through my best friend when I lived in SanFrancisco in the early 90s.
I remember him as a friendly, hard working young man who loved his music. My prayers and my thoughts are with your family.
