Words can't express how deeply sorry we are for both of you. Just know that we are praying and lighting candles for you every day. Lia and Brittany, we pray for you also and remember, love your parents, they love you so much and that love was passed onto Derek and showed by all your wonderful family visits to St. Thomas. I only met you twice, but in those two times I had the pleasure of speaking with you, we clicked. I'm ripped apart knowing a new friend was taken from me so quickly. I hope where ever you are, you are happy. That's all you ever deserved. I'll see you again someday.

I can't begin to imagine the deep sorrow and emptiness you must be feeling with the loss of seeing Derek's smile in your daily lives. Take solace in the fact that you were ALWAYS there for Derek--supportive, listening, and loving. Cherish the wonderful, warm memories you shared and they will help you get through your sorrow. We remember him coming into the store on the Island and Robin introducing him to everyone as her "son" in the truest form. The love she and he shared was truly a mother and son relationship. I'm so sorry to hear about Derek. My mom told me the news and I wanted to let you both know how upset and truly sorry iam. I feel like i lost my brother. I miss you both very much as well as Derek. He was so caring and sweet and always knew how to make me laugh and smile. I will alway think of you as my family. I wish the best to both of you. I will always be here if you need me.Love always.

I remember when being humiliated as a 13 year old when your dad would make me sit next to you at the dinner table because the whole family knew I had a monster crush on you. :o) Thank you for the many long talks we had, you never failed to make me feel understood. I will always cherish the frienship we had. My conch shell sits in my bedroom where I can see it all times.
