Robin - I was asking Frannie about you this morning and she shared the devastating news about Dereks death. I cannot find the words to say how heartbroke I am for you, Mike & Lia. It made me look back in time to our "chats" here at DEC and the many stories we shared. Thinking of you...

Words can't express how deeply sorry we are for both of you. Just know that we are praying and lighting candles for you every day. Lia and Brittany, we pray for you also and remember, love your parents, they love you so much and that love was passed onto Derek and showed by all your wonderful family visits to St. Thomas. Derek,
I only met you twice, but in those two times I had the pleasure of speaking with you, we clicked. I'm ripped apart knowing a new friend was taken from me so quickly. I hope where ever you are, you are happy. That's all you ever deserved. I'll see you again someday.

Dear Pam and Dan,
I can't begin to imagine the deep sorrow and emptiness you must be feeling with the loss of seeing Derek's smile in your daily lives. Take solace in the fact that you were ALWAYS there for Derek--supportive, listening, and loving. Cherish the wonderful, warm memories you shared and they will help you get through your sorrow. I am always here for you.

Michael, Robin, Britt and Lia - We all want to say how deeply sorry we were to hear of Derek's passing. We remember him coming into the store on the Island and Robin introducing him to everyone as her "son" in the truest form. The love she and he shared was truly a mother and son relationship. We feel for you and Michael and your daughters. We love you all and miss you terribly. Stay strong my friends, God be with you at this time of sorrow. Your loving friends, brothers and sisters on...

Derek,
I remember when being humiliated as a 13 year old when your dad would make me sit next to you at the dinner table because the whole family knew I had a monster crush on you. :o) Thank you for the many long talks we had, you never failed to make me feel understood. I will always cherish the frienship we had. My conch shell sits in my bedroom where I can see it all times.
My love and condolences go out to Britt, Lia, Robin, Michael, Daniel, and the twins
