Not sure what to say?

No words can describe how much Derek ment to all of us. I still wonder when the school will be back to normal. He was an amazing guy and will always be loved and your family is in my prayers.

Dear Dorie & Steve,
Our family is so sad to hear of Derek's passing. We haven't seen him in years but I remember him as such an energetic, bright boy with a keen interest in dinosaurs and Pokemon! I remember when Derek and Tyler convinced Maggie and Corie Dority that Pokemon's were real and lived in the sand at our house on Ono:) The girls were scared!

We are heartbroken for you and your family. He was precious.

Lisa & Doyle Rabren

Dear Dorie, My names Taylor and i have never met your before, but i wanted to let you know you are in my thoughts and prayers. I also want you to know everything is going to be okay, its terrible that derek had to leave us so soon, but all we can do is remember the good times and memories we had with him. Take it easy, everything is going to be alright.
Love, Taylor Rowell

Dear Dorie,
I only met Derek once and I remember how nice he was to me. He treated me like I was just like him when I was only 5. He was like my big brother. I thought he was so cool and wanted to see him again ever since then. My favorite memory with him was when we got roller shoes and went around the Mall of America.

I also remember Derek devouring two of my Dad's cheeseburgers. He gave me a cool toy like he had for my birthday.

Love, Luke

My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. Derek was always the most innovative and creative student in our class at Bayside East. We were young then, but I distinctly remember him finding new ways to convince me that T-Rex was real. For the short time I knew him, he impressed me with his knowledge, and continuously made me laugh!

Dorie, I just want you and your family to know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. I only met Derek a few times, but was always impressed by his sweetness.

The Light of God surrounds you, your family, and Derek,
The Love of God enfolds you, your family, and Derek,
The Power of God protects you, your family, and Derek, and
The Presence of God watches over you, your family, and Derek.

Blessings - Lee Ann Maples

Derek was just an all around great guy. I remember when he came from Bayside to SFHS, he walked into my life with that thermos, and the laffy taffy, he was never without at lunch. He would tell the stupidest jokes, but Derek always made them funny. He always had a smile on his face and no matter how bad of a day you were having, he would put a lasting smile on your face. I will always have a place in my heart for him that no one will ever fill.
I Miss You Derek.

I love Derek. I looked forward to talking to him everyday at break and lunch because he made me laugh so hard. Whenever we hung out at his house, Mrs. Dori made me feel welcome and I even bragged to some people about how nice she was to me. I am doing my best to use his life as an example for how I treat people and I feel like he will always be with me. Thank you so much for raising such an amazing friend.

I just want to let you know, im very sorry for what happened.
I go to Daphne High School and we had a moment of silents for Derek. You and your family are in my prays!
