Derek J. Narby, 21, of Brick, NJ, passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2023. A beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, friend and teammate, Derek was a shining light of the community. A lifelong resident of Brick, Derek was a 2020 graduate of Brick Memorial High School and then went on to earn his Marine Technician degree from United Technical Institute. He had recently begun attending Ocean County College while working at Colonial Market in Pt. Pleasant, NJ. Derek grew up in a home filled with love, and he was truly happiest spending time with his family.
He is survived by his parents David and April Narby and his best friends and brothers, Dawson and David Narby.
Derek’s greatest passion was baseball, and he spent his youth on the fields of Brick Little League, earning the respect of coaches and players alike, and building a baseball family. He was part of several championship teams and was a four-time all-star. He also played for Brick Memorial High School. Full of energy, Derek’s other hobbies included playing golf, skiing, and being with his friends, of which he had many. His easy demeanor and ever-present smile gave Derek a charm that drew people to him. Of all his wonderful qualities, what stood above the rest, was his ability for compassion. Derek had a unique and special gift to see into the hearts of others and have empathy, which, in turn, resulted in him always being the peacekeeper. To know Derek, was to love him.
Funeral services for Derek were private and under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home, Brick, NJ
