To the parents of this exceptional man....I am so sorry for your loss. I graduated with Derek and we always had a lot of fun together in school. Although we have not seen each other since high school graduation, we have kept in touch through myspace. I was devastated to hear the news of his passing. No one ever wants to out live their children. As a mother, I cannot even imagine what you are going through. May he rest in peace!

Although you don't know me, I have something in common With you. I recently lost my 19 year old son (3 weeks ago)unexpectedly. No one can ever imagine the pain that we go through when we lose a child. Although I don't know how your son passed I do know the untouchable pain and the heaviness that fills your heart. Keep your faith and know he is in a better place right now. My prayers go out to you and your loved ones. May God bless you!

I knew Derek through my work at the American College of Physicians in Washington D.C. I'd call Dr. Magera's office about something or other and Derek was always cheerful, courteous and helpful - even though he was very busy! My heartfelt sympathy to his family and colleagues. I'll miss him.

I knew Derek from his work at Dr. Magera's. Derek was the kindest and most gentle spirit. He was the kind of person that brightened your day and made a impact on how you felt.
