Not sure what to say?

As an employee with Covenant House New Orleans with early morning start times, I often had the pleasure of having Derek visit my office for a brief chat. He was the Landscape Supervisor for a training program run by Covenant House New Orleans (CHNO). While Derek was a positive role model for the young men at CHNO, he was passionate about his work with so many other young people in the various schools and IGL. He continues to be missed.

So saddened by the news of Derek's passing--My son attended IGL for many years as a camper as well as a participant for the gaming events--Derek was such a kind and positive person--He will be greatly missed by all!

Mrs. Thomas, I send my deepest condolences to you and your daughter. Derek and I met at St. Anthony, where we were in most of the same classes. I could never forget that bright smile he always had on his face, definitely made everyone feel welcomed. RIP D!!! You're in my thoughts and prayers.

Dora, just last week I couldn't get you out of my mind and prayed you were okay and told my husband that I needed to call you to check on you, now I know why. You and Kim have my deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers. We will be lifting ya'll up at this very difficult time. Derek will be dearly missed. Much love to all, Sheila and Larry Hope, Dana and Brandon Thomas

Mrs. Thomas so sorry for your loss. I remember Derrick so well from 6th grade, that big smile. He was always talking to me and telling me he was going to do even better in school. We also went through his tragic loss with him while here at St. Anthony. God bless you and your daughter. I will be thinking about you and praying for you. Julie Bodin

To Derek's family. My deepest condolences and sincere apology for not attending Derek's services as I heard of his passing today. I've known Derek for quite sometime and he was nothing polite, gracious and kind. Shortly after meeting Derek, I was involved in a car accident. Fortunately, Derek was in the same area, saw the accident, stopped, and stayed with me until the police arrived 3 hours later. It was a long wait but he wanted to make sure that I was safe because it was getting dark. I...

Derek is gone but far from forgotten. No one will forget his smile, positive attitude, and determination. He touched everyone he interacted with and left a lasting impression on everyone. We lost a friend but gained an angel.

I am so sorry for your loss. Your entire family is in my thoughts and prayers. Derek played football with my son at Fork Union. I still have a lot of pictures of them from back then. I remember him fondly and the days his uncle and I walked the sidelines! I know he will be missed by so many.

Kuntry, where do I begin.
When we first meet over a decade ago you had this positive aura that followed you. Such a big spirit and amazing energy you carried so well. I see still that same light inside you today shining through your photos and good memories. I'll cherish each of those for the rest of my forever, until next time. - a friend, C. Katherine
