Not sure what to say?

I use to work at Van Eck Global & remember Derek as having an easy laugh and down-to-earth demeanor. I'm in shock as I just found out about his passing; he was so full of life! My prayers & thoughts go out to his wife and children as well as to Jan & Mr. & Mrs. John van Eck.

My name is Steven T Voiland. My company is Links Capital Group. I am a financial advisor in Seattle WA. I have just recently learned of Derek's passing and wish to extend my sincere sympathy and prayers for strength to the family. I own and recommend VanEck investments to my personal clients and greatly Valued Derek's role and have great respect for the family business as a whole. Although I have never had the pleasure to meet Derek, he has helped me personally and my clients and I simply...

I suppose a lot of things can reveal a person's identity, but two things that always do are the pressure of work and strong spirits. I was fortunate enough to have a number of business dinners with Derek over the years, and as we went through several bottles of wine (and occasionally more than several) the person who always emerged was kind and decent and without pretense. This was the same person I encountered through my work covering Van Eck. Being a money manager is a very difficult job -...

With a heavy heart I send my deepest condolences to Deb and the entire van Eck family. Derek was one of the most down to earth, fun, smart and quietly confident bosses I've ever worked for...a rare thing to find on Wall Street...like his brother and Mr. van Eck, he was a true class act. Chris and I have you in our hearts and prayers. xoxo

My condolences to the whole family. Derek was a great guy. We were benchwarmers together as freshmen on the Williams baseball team. He was about as nice a guy as you'll ever meet.

Our deepest condolences go to the entire Van Eck family, especially his wife and children. Words cannot express or imagine the sense of loss to this family. Many prayers are with you even now.

My deepest condolences to the van Eck family. Derek and I were in Hackley's first 2nd Grade class together, and I have cherished that connection. I last saw Derek at our 25th reunion in 2007. I'm grateful to have been able to see him again before he left us.

Derek will be missed - always cordial, engaging and thoughtful. Condolences to the van Eck family and Derek's colleagues.

Paige and I mourn the loss of Derek and our hearts go out to his family and colleagues. Derek had many great qualities but, above all, was a great friend. He will be sorely missed.
