June, my prayers are with you today and always. Derrell is such a great guy! I say IS, because he is alive and still with us in spirit. How blessed I have been to have known someone like him. I know I haven't seen a lot of him in later years, but he was never far from my thoughts. In fact, he is the very reason that I made it to Nashville! Remember the songs we wrote and how we went in and demoed them? They were the songs that got me my deal with Warner Brothers. I will be forever grateful to...

Derrell's Song

Farewell son of Birmingham
Who held the magic in his hands
Made people cry and made them dance
And took their cares away...
You played in mostly major keys
And lived what you were meant to be
You left us with these memories
That even make us smile today
So if you think about it Derrell

June,
My prayers are with you right now. Darrell is the best, and I say IS, because I know he is with God now and will always be alive in spirit. Although I didn't get to see him much in later years, Derrell is the very reason I made it to Nashville in the first place. The songs we wrote together and his demos are what got me my deal with Warner brothers back in the 80s, and I'm so appreciative of that. That's just the kind of guy Darrell is and I believe we all will see him again...

My most sincere condolences to all of the family and friends. Rest in Peace Darrell, I know you will now sing with the Angels.
