Not sure what to say?

Derrell was my favorite principal He cared so much for his students. One day he took boy's dog home when it followed the boy to school so the boy would not be worried. Another time he took a boy home to change his new shoes. Derrell said that you can't learn when your feet hurt. He was such an intuitive caring person. RES was fortunate to have him.

Mr. Turner was a great and caring man! He was my Principal from 1st through 6th grade. Mr. Turner was stern enough that we students were afraid to get in trouble but he was compansionate enough to give us that pat on the back when we did well. After I graduated from high school I went back to Riverdale Elementary School and he remembered me by name. He took me around to all my old classrooms and we shared some great memories. God Bless his family!

I'm very sorry to hear of Mr. Turners passing. He was very inspirational to me as a young boy. Always encouraging me to be my best as a student and an athlete. Derrell Turner is Riverdale Elementary. He made it a great place to be and a great place to be from. God Bless you Eric, my old teammate.

What a lose....he was a great man and a respected man. Attended RES 77-84

Wonderful man, great role model for students. Tremendous loss! Attended Riverdale Elementary 1977-1982

He was a friend for the last 6 years and I was always made to feel welcome at his home. It is my blessing to have have known him! Last Thursday he revealed his choice for the Super Bowl: NY Giants. This Sunday I will be the biggest Giants fan on the planet! God bless you Darrell!

A very great man and educator who really cared for his students.
I saw him many years after graduating high school and he still knew me by sight! Harold Carroll 1972-1978
