I was roommates with Derrick for a summer while working in Alaska about 25 years ago. I had been meaning to look him up for years and only now learned about this devastating loss while trying to track him down online. We may have only spent one summer together, but it was a very special time for me as Derrick was such a great human being to connect with. He brightened my life in a very meaningful way and I feel like he's still a disproportionate part of me. I'm sure everyone who knew him...
