Derrick, I'm sorry that it has taken me this long to find this page and message you. The news of your death hit hard. I have an image of you seared into my memory. You're covered in moon dust, returning from a mission. You worked hard and led by example on the streets of Marjah. You are the type of man that I want my sons to be like when they grow up. I'm proud to have had you as one of my Sergeants. I know your struggles and I intend to honor your life by living mine the best way...

Cathy and Mike, I just heard about your loss today. You have my deepest sympathies, how proud you must have been for this young soldier and son. My thoughts and prayers to you and your family.
