Desmond LAURENCE passed away. The obituary was featured in The Times on May 14, 2019.
Sorry to hear this that Desmond passed on. I remember working for Camden Council while a student in UK to look after him. I returned home in 2013. I am so sorry to hear that he passed on. He was generous, honest and friendly. There is no week that he did not buy a gift including an expensive dictionary and thesaurus that I always remember him with. RIP

I will forever be grateful to Professor Laurence for his kindness towards me as I joined his department at UCL in the early 1980s. I was the most junior member of the department, a French trainee. In spite of this, or maybe because of this, Desmond took special care of me, inviting me at week-ends at Hampstead, inviting me to his club.
