Not sure what to say?

Today, something reminded me of Mr. Ryan. It was a feeling that God had sent him to me to be the cause to pursue my dream in studying journalism. Indeed, it was Mr. Ryan who inspired me and connected me to friends at an Ohio university where I studied journalism. So it was that overwhelming feeling today that pushed to look for Mr. Ryan online so I could re-connect with him and thank him. I was sure he would be proud ....only to find out that he passed away six years earlier. I am really...

My daughter Jennifer and I just saw this and we are profoundly saddened by it. I only saw Des a couple times but he always presented himself as terrific fellow.

I remember Desmond coming to visit my parents Olga and Roddy O'Connor at our home in Ann Arbor in the 70's. Singing, laughing, storytelling, eating, and beer, were in abundance. I am sorry for your loss. He was a lovely man.

I will always remember Mr. Ryan fondly. I was involved with Huron Players 1988-1991. He was truly a mentor and a friend who inspired those who knew him.

I had Mr. Ryan's Radio and TV class as a junior in 1986. One of the things I learned was that FM radio and TV stations usually don't carry over the air much more than 90 miles. A few years after his class, I was watching TV one hot and humid night and received TV stations from locations much further away. Mr. Ryan was the first person I thought of when that happened. I always wished I could have told him about it.

I have always been inthralled by your husbands memory. So much that my son's name is after him. Desmond Hale Doneen. I sort of love my son as much as your husband. He is 14 now, a killer showman, loving his electric guitar. In the silance that Michigan weather brings to adolesent bedrooms. Desmond Hale Doneen arives with his name from your husband 1 and 2nd from the hale bop commet that was in the sky during his birht. Thanku for are family name. I belive his blood roots are strong. A song...

Dearest Sally and Family, my heart aches for all of you as you mourn the loss of Des. I have such fond memories of subbing at Huron, listening to stories and music in your beautiful home. Des was wise, funny, compassionate and kind and he will not be forgotton. I will hold you all in my thoughts and prayers.

Des also a young teacher as I joined the Huron staff in 1969. He was impish, funny, smart, an inspiration to kids and peers alike. His mark on Huron was indelible and 'tis a sweet touch of the Eire, it is. Liz Gray

"From glen to glen, and down the mountain side; the summer's gone, and all the roses falling; 'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide."

Desmond Ryan, a great man of Ireland, who touched so many lives. I'll miss the wit, the sarcasm, the friendship, and the endless cups of tea.

Desmond, the pipes have called you home.
