Not sure what to say?

What greater tribute is there for a man than that he is remembered as having been a major source of inspiration, motivation and success. May his memory be eternal.

When we, the first freshman class at Banks H. S., arrived at the school in Sept.1957, we could look across the street from our buildings at the football field field/track. All rocks and mud! It seemed there was no future in athletics at that site. By the time we graduated four years later, we were winning State Championships. Some of you who read this will remember Coach Crumpton sending us "long distance" guys up to the fire tower for exercise... Puff puff! One of the kindest,...

I want to extend my deepest sympathy to Faye and other family members. Coach Crumpton and I worked together in our teaching and coaching careers and I had great
respect for him. His ability to inspire people to go 110% was a special talent. Also, he had the best sense of humor of anyone I have ever known. Coach Dewell Crumpton will certainly be greatly missed.

Coach was may first true "mentor", as he guided my work ethic, discipline, and goals for success. I will always treasure the time spent with him, and remember the recent gatherings on his behalf....Bucky

TO THE MEMORY OF COACH CRUMPTON: I remember it...as though it were yesterday...when Coach Crumpton tried explaining to me why my legs were not too short to run "the mile"! You almost persuaded me, Coach...and I would have died trying for you...but Larry Alley was the right choice! You had such a "gift of words", Coach...and I can still hear your words! You touched so many with your kindness! We'll never forget you!

Thank you Coach for sharing your life with us so long ago. It is a permanent memory in my life.

Faye and family: I am sorry to hear of Coach's passing. I was out of the country at the time; however I want you all know that I and the other 50 plus Banks High athletes considered it a great opportunity to meet with Coach Crumpton this fall and verbalize to him the impact he had on our lives. And just like Coach, when asked what we could do for him, he asked us to help the Banks Middle School kids and coaches. Needless to say the Birmingham guys have done a great job in collecting the...

Coach Crumpton was not only serious but full of good humor which made doing workouts and running under him a delight. In the spring of 1966 at the Alabama State High School Track Championship meet in Auburn I was running the half mile and was just about to run in the preliminaries on Friday, Coach came up to me and said Haffner you got to go for the record today for it is going to rain Saturday in the finals so run full out and I did and I broke the record buy a hole second.

Saturday...

I knew Dewell through his brother, Mark, for whom I work. I know that if the two were anything alike, he was indeed a fine man, which is evidenced here by the many notes of adoration. There is nothing quite like the bond between brothers. It is clear to all who know Mark that he loved his brother dearly and that he will cherish the many memories they shared. My deepest sympathy to the Crumpton family and to all who were a part of Dewell’s life! May God comfort each and every one of you...
