Dewey Byron Kingston III, 69 of Groton, passed away peacefully on Friday May 24, 2024, with his loving wife by his side in their vacation home, that he so loved, in Milford, PA. Dewey was born September 17, 1954, in Port Jervis, NY. to Dewey Byron Kingston II and Dolores Somner. He married Gail Lovett Kingston, she survives him.
Dewey served proudly in the USN Submarine Force on numerous boats for twenty years and was the recipient of countless awards. The last boat he served on was the USS Hartford of which he was a plank owner. Dewey then continued to support the submarine force as a military contractor and served worldwide for over 18 years.
Dewey was a devout Catholic and served as a Eucharistic Minister on the boats and in the military parish. His greatest joy was being a dad and pop pop. He was a master carpenter, building anything from houses to grandkids tree houses and always willing and happy to help others. Dewey was the kindest, loving person that never had a bad word to say about anyone. We will all deeply miss seeing pop pop in his workshop or playing his guitar.
Besides his devoted wife Gail, he is survived by his children Hope Cahoon and her husband Casey, Timothy Kingston and his wife Loni, Amanda Kingston, Eric Kingston and 8 grandchildren: Cole, Cameron, Paige, Noah, Ireland, Chloey, Gabrielle and Ryder.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00am Saturday, June 8, 2024, at St. Patrick Cathedral, 213 Broadway, Norwich, CT 06360. A private interment with military honors will be in Pennsylvania.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Dewey’s memory to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite #300, Jacksonville, FL 32256. https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate .
