Not sure what to say?

Fran and family, I just heard about your loss.We had such a good time with you and Dewey and the girls. As you may know I lost Jean (April 15) will be three years. I have told so many funny stories about you and Dewey to my family. I still remember the Lobster Dinner!!! I hope you and your family are well. Vern Thudium and family.

Deepest sympathies for your loss. I am honored to have been a guest at a Maine lobster dinner and remember taking a ride in his wood boat. At the time I remember thinking that choosing a wood boat over other modern options was a strong statement of his character. I remember him as being very cheerful.

My deepest sympathy to you all. I was lucky to know Dewey and Fran for a time in Ann Arbor, thanks to Francie and Ann Wagner, and will never forget how kind, warm and funny Dewey was. My thoughts and prayers are with you now and as you move forward.

The world is a much smaller and chillier place without Dewey Noland in it...Our sympathy to Fran and the family...please see that Dewey's "Ann Arbor Friends" know when the memorial service will be held...there'll be a crowd!...

As anyone who met Dewey knows, he was such a character. Dewey is my grandfather and I didn't realize until my young adult years just how unique our relationship was. First, he insisted I call him Dewey once I reached high school, he said I was too old to refer to him as Doda or Grandpa, or any other endearing names, so that was that. Second, much to my parent's dismay, I never felt like I needed to filter my language or thoughts around him. I could always express myself freely, whether it be...

Dear Laura, Lela, Francie and Mary, so awfully sorry to hear about your Dad. He was a lovely person. I enjoyed being in your family home with you all years ago. So hard losing a parent. You are all in my thoughts as you have gone through so much this past year. My deep sympathy for you and all who loved your Dad.

Dear Lela,
So sorry to hear that Dewey passed away. Please extend my condolences to your mother, Drew, your children, your sisters and their families. Keeping you all close in my heart.

Dewey was my grandfather.

When I was a baby, he would walk around the house singing the Disney song Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Daa, so I called him Dooda - a name that stuck with all my cousins.

Growing up, I didn't get to see him that often, so when I did it was always special. We shared a southern accent and sense of humor among other things and bonded in many ways. He taught me how to appreciate life and bought me my first pocket knife and showed me how to whittle a stick.

He...
