On June 17th, 1950 in Moscow, ID Robert and Belvia "Ruth" Ellis gave birth to the second of five children, Diana. Ruth would relocate herself and the kids to Spokane, WA where Diana would later graduate from Lewis & Clark High School and join the service. During her second tour of duty overseas she became pregnant and returned home give birth to her son Mark. Diana left the military and enrolled at Spokane Falls Community College earning her Associates' Degree and then enrolled at Eastern Washington University to attain her Bachelors. Unbeknownst to her at the time, Diana had paranoia personality disorder and schizophrenia. As her condition progressed, work and school became challenging some days. Regardless of her state Dianna would put her heart into her studies and demonstrated true grit as she achieved good grades. Just as Diana was to begin her third year at Eastern; she had a series of medical issues that impacted her studies so she withdrew and focused mainly on raising her son. Diana retired early and enjoyed spending her time at Riverfront Park, the Spokane Library or with her Mother gardening, reading books and discussing current world affairs. On Monday, February 17th Diana passed away in Spokane, WA. She was just 69 years old. She is survived by her Father, her brother David, sisters Trisha and Denise and her son Mark. One of Diana's favorite poets and author Dr. Maya Angelou once said, "You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them..." Mom, you were the very definition of resilience. We love and miss you dearly.
