Diane M. (Crowe) Almeida--62, A resident of Melrose passed away on Monday, October 3, 2016.  Born and raised in Somerville, Diane was the daughter of the late John S. Crowe and Mary F. (Walsh) Crowe. She was a gifted artist, a talented playwright and a devoted mother and grandmother.


 


A graduate of UMass Boston, Diane went on to earn a Ph.D. from Tufts University. She returned to UMass as a professor in the Theater Department where she wrote and directed a number of plays and taught courses in acting and playwriting.


 


Diane was the devoted mother of Alexander C. Almeida of Somerville and Nicholas C. Almeida of Baltimore, Maryland and cherished Grammy of Alexandra, John and Kaine Almeida.  Diane is also survived by her brother Thomas E. Crowe of Lowell and her sisters Joanne Margey of Dracut and Jacalyn Crowe of Somerville.  Her sister, Judith Lovell, preceded her in death.


 


A Funeral Service to honor and celebrate Diane’s life was held in the George L. Doherty Funeral Home, 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) in Somerville on Friday afternoon, October 7, 2016, at 1:30 p.m. Relatives and friends were respectfully invited to attend. Interment was private.

We are so very sorry to hear of Diane's passing. She was a wonderful friend and a dear colleague. Eileen and I will miss her very, very much. She was a talented writer, director, artist and educator. We wish Alex & Nick, their children and all of Diane's family peace and strength at this difficult time.
