Diane passed away at home after a recent diagnosis of cancer. She was born in Long Beach, California, the younger of two daughters of Dale Buschke, a California State Park Ranger, and Mary Ann Buschke. She lived her childhood in a series of state parks--Pfeiffer Big Sur, Morro Bay, D.L. Bliss at Lake Tahoe, Humboldt Redwoods, Prairie Creek Redwoods, and Jack London in Sonoma County. She graduated from Sonoma Valley High School and then UC Berkeley, with additional classes at Fresno State. She worked at both federal and state parks in California before moving to Oregon, eventually returning to Sonoma County. Never married, she took many solo trips around the world, including New Zealand, Egypt, London, Japan, China, and Germany. She was intelligent, funny, and dependable, and had many interests; she was indispensable in the care of her parents. A cross-country skier when she was younger, she was a devoted fan of the winter Olympics.

She is survived by her loving mother, Mary Ann Buschke, and sister Linda Buschke Hamaoka. Intensely private, she wished there to be no services.

Not sure what to say?

Mary Ann, you may not remember me - I was Carol Watts and I worked with you at Sonoma State Hospital. I read of your daughter´s passing in the PD this morn and am very very sorry for your loss. I have never forgotten your sweet soul and I know she must have carried a lot of you in herself. Carol Ferrell Santa Rosa
