Swartz Funeral Home - Flint Obituary

GHATTAS, Diane G. - Of Flint, age 74, was graced with her angel wings on December 7, 2020.

Our sweet Honey spent the last moments of her love story with Elie, her husband of 46 years, who held her hand along with her dear sons, George (Tia) and Joseph (Amy). They were privileged to shower her with love and prayers as she had done for them their entire lives. Di was a fearless cheerleader of all she met and reminded us of the grace that God provided her each day. Her spirituality was shared by her surviving loving sister Mary (Randy) Sias, and her sister Jan (John) Lutton who preceded her to heaven. Welcoming her with open arms are her mother Pauline and father Joseph Koluch who must be so joyous to have her again in their arms. Di was an artist and creator who touched the hearts and minds of many as an art teacher in the Flint Community Schools for more than 30 years. Important and everyday life events were often observed by lighting a candle and saying a prayer with deep faith that everything would be okay. She enjoyed her home on Lake Leelanau and afternoon happy hours with friends and loved ones. Her annual summer garage sale was a much anticipated event. Her grandchildren, Alexis, Elie, Donny, Gordon and Nicholas, were the lights of her life. Please hug them and share a fun story about their sweet Honey. She will be dearly missed by all. Her parting phrase to family and friends was always, "God bless you and keep you safe." Di, Mom, Aunt Di, Honey, Mrs. Ghattas, we say to you, "God bless you and keep you safe". May eternal rest grant unto her, oh Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her.

Cremation has taken place and a private Memorial Mass will be held at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 706 Beach Street, Flint.

Father Tom Firestone officiating.

Contributions can be made to St. Matthew Catholic Church or Catholic Charities of Genesee County.

Not sure what to say?

We loved being her neighbor on Beard St. She always came to our garage sale to find treasures for her boys. She was a happy and fun person to be around. She died much too young.

Elie, I never met your beautiful wife but I am so sorry for your loss. It seems as though you two had a wonderful life together.

May she Rest In Peace! Eli, as a fellow widower, I pray that you live with wonderful memories, hard as it is. Peace, Dan Cady

She was a great art teacher....sending my love to the family. ❤

Elie, George and Joey

We were so saddened to hear of Diane's passing. We always enjoyed seeing her in Flint and at Lake Leelanau. She was such an inspiration to all and a positive, spiritual person. Diane will be truly missed. May the many happy memories sustain you at this difficult time.

Peace and Love

Diane,, Rest In Peace,,

I I am so sorry to hear of Mrs. Ghattas’ passing (she’ll always be Mrs. Ghattas to me). She was such a lovely women who I always looked up to and admired. My favorite memory of her was in the fall of 1983 when my best friend, AnneElise Mair, invited me to a U of M football game and we ran into her at a tailgate. She asked us about our plans after high school and we started talking about our college application essays. Ever the teacher, she enthusiastically encouraged us to, “Write about...

Elie, George, Joey, and family,

Praying that God would carry you as you struggle with the loss of Diane, and that you would find moments of joy as you remember her.

Diane was my (favorite) teacher, mentor, and friend, and shaped so much of my career and life. As a teacher, I would like to think that her creativity, which was passed to me, continues infinitely as it has been passed on to my students, some of whom are teachers, and passing that creativity along to their...

Ellie, Joe and Anthony, so sorry for your loss. Hugs and prayers to your entire family.
