VANDER VELDEN, Diane O. - Of Grand Blanc, age 83, died Monday, February 15, 2021 peacefully at her residence.


Funeral service will be held 11am Monday, February 22, 2021 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint.


Dr. Max B. Hayden officiating.


Visitation 1-4pm Sunday and 10am Monday until the time of the service at the funeral home. Due to Covid-19 and government regulations, only 25 people will be allowed in the chapel at one time. Mask, group capacity and distancing guidelines must be practiced.


Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.


Diane was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 3, 1937, the daughter of the late Elmer and Louise (Shaver) Oldenburg. She graduated from Denby High School in Detroit. Diane then went on to and graduated from Michigan State University. She was a home economics teacher in Laingsburg, Michigan. Diane was also a Girl Scout Leader. Diane enjoyed playing cards, especially Bridge. She also enjoyed golfing, where she played on a ladies league at Warwick Hills as well as bowling, traveling, boating and spending time up north. Above all else, Diane enjoyed time with her family and grandchildren as well as her significant other, Emory.


Surviving are daughters, Anne Vander Velden, Cynthia (Donald) Leavy and Amy (Jon) Sutherland;


Significant other, Emory Wenzel;


Brother, Donald (Laura) Oldenburg;


Granddaughters, Megan (Michael) Asselin, Staci McClellan, Ella Sutherland;


Grandsons, Patrick (Trinity) Leavy and Jack Sutherland;


And many nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward L. Vander Velden, son, Michael Ross Vander Velden and brother, John Oldenburg.
