     Dicie Edna Yates, 81, of Canada, KY, passed away Friday, July 19, 2024, at Pikeville Medical Center. Dicie was born July 12, 1943, at Pikeville, KY, to the late Cecil DeBoard and Maxine Kinney DeBoard. Dicie is also preceded in death by her husband, Ballard Edward Yates; brothers, Johnny and Cecil DeBoard; sisters, Susie (Roy) Thacker, Ruth (Burford) Mercer, and brother-in-law, Bill King. Dicie was a homemaker, and a member of the Bluesprings Freewill Baptist Church for 49 years.
     Dicie is survived by her children, Billy (Renee) Yates of Ransom, KY, Joe (Sharon) Yates of Canada, KY, Ballard Shane (Elizabeth) Yates of Canada, KY, and Crystal (Justin) Lowe of Canada, KY; siblings, Jimmy (Loretta) DeBoard of Hurricane, KY, and Betty King of Van Lear, KY; her grandchildren; Rachel (Daniel) Jacobs of MI, Matthew (Katie) Yates of Toler, KY, Haleigh (Addison) Marcum of Canada, KY, Katelyn (Dylan) Dotson of Lenore, WV, Zachary Yates of Belfry, KY, Ian Belcher of Canada, KY, Cameron (Pattie) Justice of Raccoon, KY, and Paizley Hobbs of Canada, KY; his great grandchildren, Katherine Jacobs, Elisha Jacobs, Ezra Marcum, Shiloh Yates, Kash Dotson, Kendyl Dotson, Kipp Dotson, and a host of loving family and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 PM Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at Bluesprings Freewill Baptist Church with Roger Bogar officiating. Burial will follow at Bluesprings Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery with Matthew Yates, Ian Belcher, Cameron Justice, Justin Lowe, Addison Marcum, Dylan Dotson, and Zachary Yates serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Yates, Joe Yates, and Justin Moon. The visitation will be after 6 PM Tuesday night, July 23, 2024, at the church, with special services at 7 PM. R. E. Dicie was one of the sweetest persons I knew. She was a good mother and loved her kids so much. We had several good visits especially when our kids were growing up. She was definitely a special friend. Love and Prayers for the family.
