Obituary

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Dick Wilson, the character actor and pitchman who for 21 years played an uptight grocer begging customers ''Please, don't squeeze the Charmin,'' died Monday. He was 91.

The man famous as TV's ''Mr. Whipple'' died of natural causes at the Motion Picture & Television Fund Hospital in Woodland Hills, said his daughter Melanie Wilson, who is known for her role as a flight attendant on the ABC sitcom ''Perfect Strangers.''

Wilson made more than 500 commercials as Mr. George Whipple, a man consumed with keeping bubbly housewives from fondling toilet paper. The punch line of most spots was that Whipple himself was a closeted Charmin-squeezer.

The first commercial aired in 1964 and by the time the campaign ended in 1985 the tag line and Wilson, a former Canadian airman and vaudeville veteran, were pop culture touchstones.

He also played a drunk on several episodes of ''Bewitched,'' as appeared as various characters on ''Hogan's Heroes,'' ''The Bob Newhart Show,'' and Walt Disney productions.

He must be squeezing the Charmin in that store in the sky!

Mr. Wilson performed his "drunk" theater patron on stage at Variety Arts in LA early 1980's I was lucky to meet him "To you it's toilet paper, to me it's my bread and butter"

Keith Grayson sending belated condolences.
I am the last of the Grayson's and never met Dick, however I knew Melanie and always watched her show, very proud to have known her,I actually knew a star!
My Grandmother, Thelma was fortunate enough to have known The Wilson's and she told me Dick was the funniest man she ever knew!
He had everyone crying with sore stomach muscles by the end of an evening!
I never forgot this because my Grandmother was not prone to levity, hat really...

For Dick...For more than
twenty years you warned us
not to squeeze the Charmin.

WEEP NOT FOR ME

Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.

Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in...

There is no such thing as "death," it's only an illusion this thick dimension creates. The seperation it creates is real, sadly... But we'll all see those who've passed again! We'll pass! And how exciting right now for Dick! What joy and wonders he's experiencing!

he will never be forgoten he was great actor and a familiar face that will be missed .

I don't think anyone will forget Mr. Wilson's Charmin commercials. Although he lived a long life, no doubt his family misses him tremendously. Peace from the God above can bring solace to your family. 1 Corinthians 1:3,4 My sympathies to you.
