Not sure what to say?

Gone but not forgotten...thank you for your sacrifice..

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Rincon,
I am still thinking of Diego and post his picture every year on Memorial Day. Your precious son is not forgotten and I will be forever grateful for his service to our country.
Sincerely, Karen Greene
Covington, Georgia

Hi Mr and Mrs. Rincon- I was so touched by your story in NPR-storycorps- I walked into my office with tears in my eyes. It was 9 years ago that NPR interviewed my dad to discuss my brother killed in Iraq. On this memorial I will be thinking of Diego and your entire family.

I miss you every day!!! Love you, dad.

Today, we met Mr. George Rincon, Diego's proud father.

Diego, I just met your hard working father, George. I need to tell you that you couldn't be more proud of him and your family! So many years have passed, and even though our son was in Iraq when you were killed, and I kept myself glued to the TV news in the wait of knowing my sons where abouts, the memories of faces and names of our fallen soldiers had almost faded, but, thanks to your dad, who wears your name written in gold, your soldier's flag patches, and your picture on both of his shirt...

DIEGUITO I WILL REMEMBER FOR EVER I LOVE YOU

Never to be forgotten.

As I am cleaning out my closet, I came across the manilla envelope that was given to me by Yolanda. They were traveling to Utah for the Ceremony on July 4. I listened to the cd, crying of course, and read the letter he had written to his mom. I did not know Diego or his family, but I will think of them each day. Gone, but not forgotten.

I did not know Diego, but many of my students did. He is my Memorial Day hero. What a beautiful smile. To his family, I hope that passing time has been kind to you.
